Two RVFD personnel recognized for National EMS Week

VAIL, AZ – In celebration of National EMS Week, the Rincon Valley Fire District recognized two crew members for saving the life of a Tucson man.

The elderly man was seen by neighbors as he collapsed outside his home in eastern Tucson in March. He was experiencing a heart attack, which represents 60% of the rescue calls received by RVFD.

Paramedic Marlon Posada and EMT Wayne Davies responded to the home and immediately began administering CPR. Using a lifesaving defibrillator, they successfully restarted his heart rhythm and circulation.

“Within less than 10 minutes from arrival, our crews transported him to the nearest emergency room where he successfully recovered from his cardiac arrest,” said Fiona de Young, the District’s Community Relations Manager.

On Thursday night at the District’s monthly board meeting, Fire Chief Jayme Kahle presented the responders with a certificate of commendation and a coin for outstanding service.

“In these challenging time, it’s a strong reminder that the everyday work our first responders continues,” said Kahle, “it’s a testament to the sacrifice and dedication of our personnel, where seconds can make a difference in the life of an individual experiencing a medical emergency.”
Family members, board members, and the crew’s Battalion Chiefs were in attendance.
National EMS week was started in 1974 by president Gerald Ford. Each day has its own theme, with Thursday being Save-a-Life Day.
